<p style="text-align: center;">Fruit and drain flies are a real pain. 😭</p>When they start appearing around the kitchen, the trash bin or the sink, it sometimes looks like they multiplied overnight.<br /><br />I recently spotted little fruit flies in our kitchen and wanted something simple that I could make with things I already had at home. <p data-end="1573" data-start="1456">You don't need to pour a lot of dishwashing liquid into the vinegar. <strong data-end="1573" data-start="1525">Two teaspoon are enough for a small ¼-cup trap.</strong></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">How to Make a Fruit Fly Trap With Vinegar and Dish Soap</h3><p data-end="1693" data-start="1635"></p><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Pour <strong data-end="1669" data-start="1640">¼ cup or 60 mL of vinegar</strong> into a small container.</li><li>Next, add <strong data-end="1738" data-start="1705">2 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid</strong>.</li><li>Gently swirl the container once or twice. <i>You don't need to vigorously mix it because you don't want to create lots of soap bubbles.</i></li><li>WORKS BEST: If you want to make the bait more attractive, you can also add <strong data-end="1967" data-start="1938">1 teaspoon of brown sugar</strong>.</li><li>Cover the top of the container tightly with plastic wrap.</li><li>Using a toothpick, make around <strong data-end="2079" data-start="2060">6–8 small holes</strong> in the plastic.</li><li>Then place your homemade fruit fly trap wherever you're seeing the most flies.</li></ol><p></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Why Does Vinegar and Dish Soap Kill Fruit or Drain Flies?</h3><p data-end="2259" data-start="2230">The bait is the vinegar.

<br />Fruit flies are naturally attracted to fermenting fruits and liquids, which is why you’ll often find apple cider vinegar (or any vinegar, really) in homemade fruit fly traps.
<br />
<br />The role of the dishwashing liquid is different.
<br />
<br />In general a small fly can land on the surface of a liquid. The few drops of dish soap break the surface tension of the liquid , enabling the flies to sink more readily into the mixture .
<br />
<br />And that's also why you don't need much soap.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Can I Use White Vinegar Instead of Apple Cider Vinegar?</h3><p data-end="2868" data-start="2781">Yes, and that's exactly why I made mine with what I already had in the kitchen.
<br />
<br />But apple cider vinegar often has a stronger fruity, fermented smell that fruit flies may find attractive.
<br />
<br />If you only have white vinegar, you can make the bait more appealing by adding:
<br /><br /><i>1 tsp of brown sugar [BEST] or a little piece of fruit or overripe banana.
</i><br />
<br />This makes the trap smell more like the sweet and fermented smell fruit flies are looking for.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Where Should I Put My DIY Fruit Fly Trap?</h3><p data-end="3358" data-start="3311">Placement matters almost as much as the recipe.</p><p data-end="3476" data-start="3360">Instead of putting the trap randomly somewhere in your kitchen, place it close to where you regularly see the flies.</p><p data-end="3507" data-start="3478">Good places include near the:</p><ul data-end="3641" data-start="3509">

</ul><p data-end="3739" data-start="3643">I prefer putting the trap fairly close to the problem area [near the sink, and beside the trash can] instead of somewhere across the room.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">How Long Should I Leave the Fruit Fly Trap Out?</h3><p data-end="3876" data-start="3793">The general advice is to leave the trap for about 24-48 hours before checking it. However, the above mixture can also last up to a week.

<br />Replace if it becomes soiled or diluted or full of insects, or just seems to have lost its ability to attract flies.
<br />
<br />However if you continue to see lots of fruit flies after several days, adding more traps is probably not going to solve the real problem.
<br />
<br />You need to find out where they are coming from.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies Completely</h3><p data-end="4320" data-start="4223">A homemade vinegar trap can trap adult fruit flies but there is an important point to remember:
<br /><br /></p><div style="text-align: center;"><blockquote>The trap doesn't necessarily remove the source of their breeding.</blockquote></div>
<br />Check the kitchen for overripe fruit, food scraps, sticky spills, trash cans, recycling bins, potatoes or onions that are starting to go bad and residue around drains.

<br />Clean these areas and whenever possible, keep ripe fruit covered or refrigerated.
<br />

Add the vanilla</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla flavor and stir.</li><li>At this point, your kitchen already starts smelling like dessert. 😂</li></ul><p>5. Pour and refrigerate</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Pour the mixture into small cups, ramekins, glasses or one larger container.</li><li>Allow it to cool slightly before placing it in the refrigerator.</li><li>Refrigerate for approximately 4–6 hours, or preferably overnight, until completely set.</li></ul><p></p><p style="text-align: center;">And that's it! Give it at least four hours before deciding that something went wrong.<br />4. Can I delete the Thank You page in Kit?</p><p>No. Kit doesn't provide an option to permanently delete the Thank You page from a landing page. However, you can effectively replace it by choosing either Show a success message or Redirect to an external page and then publishing your changes.</p><p>2. Will my custom Thank You page be deleted if I switch to another option?</p><p>No. Based on my testing, switching to Show a success message or Redirect to an external page does not erase your custom Thank You page. If you decide to use it again later, your previous edits should still be there.</p><p>3. How do I switch from a custom Thank You page to a success message?</p><p>Open your landing page, select the Thank You page tab, choose Show a success message, and click Publish to save your changes.</p><p>4. Can I redirect subscribers to another website after they sign up?</p><p>Yes. Instead of displaying a Thank You page, you can select Redirect to an external page and enter the URL where you want subscribers to be sent after they submit the form.</p><p>5. Why can't I find the delete button for the Thank You page?</p><p>With Kit's updated navigation, there is no dedicated Delete button for the Thank You page. Instead, you replace it by selecting a different post-submission option, such as a success message or an external redirect.</p><p>6. Do I need to republish my landing page after making changes?</p><p>Yes. After changing the Thank You page settings, click Publish to make the changes live. If you leave the page without publishing, your updates won't be applied.</p><p>7. Will changing the Thank You page affect my subscribers?</p><p>No. Changing the Thank You page only affects what new subscribers see after submitting the form. It does not remove or modify existing subscribers in your Kit account.</p><p>8. Can I switch back to my custom Thank You page later?</p><p>Yes. If you've previously customized your Thank You page, you can switch back to it later. Your edits should remain available unless you've manually changed or overwritten them.</p><p>9. Does this work for all Kit landing pages?</p><p>Yes.
