Part 1: Traveling Guide to Philippines - Metro Manila Edition for Foreigners

0

Heya~ I'm a Filipino currently residing in Metro Manila, although I love my country, there are some facts you need to remember and make sure you don't or do, need and NOT TO BUY when visiting this Region.

1. Buy a SIM card at the airport

If you're planning to travel to the Philippines, it's a good idea to set up one of the sim slots on your device with a local sim card. This will allow you to easily stay connected while on the go, whether you need to access mobile data or contact someone locally.

Keep in mind, though, that many establishments throughout the country offer free Wi-Fi, so you may not necessarily need a sim card to stay connected. The decision will depend on your individual needs and preferences, but having a local sim card can certainly come in handy when you're out and about.

2. DOWNLOAD these applications for your food and travel needs

I would like to share my experience with SOME (not all) taxi drivers in Naia Terminal 3 and other terminals. While it is unfair to label all taxi drivers as scammers, there are some who charge more than the metered fare especially to those who just arrived from a flight. As a Filipino, I have also fallen victim to this. It is frustrating to be taken advantage of in such a way, especially after a long flight. 😖

To avoid this problem, I highly recommend using Grab for transportation all over Metro Manila. Not only is it more convenient and reliable, but it also provides transparency in pricing, so you know exactly how much you will be charged before you even get into the car.

Also, I highly recommend using Food Panda for food delivery services. With their wide selection of restaurants and fast delivery times, you can enjoy delicious meals from the comfort of your own home or hotel room.

Tired of cars? No worries! You can now book a motorbike ride with ease through awesome apps like Angkas, Joyride, and MOVEIT! They make commuting around the city a breeze!

3. Want to experience local in Metro Manila? Visit these places!

  • Quiapo Church | Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene
  • Binondo Church
  • Binondo - the city's Chinatown
  • Intramuros
  • Casa Manila
  • Rizal Park
  • The Manila Cathedral
  • San Agustin Church
  • National Museum of Fine Arts

4. Exchange money

If you plan to travel abroad, it is always a good idea to exchange your money before your trip. However, it is important to note that the exchange rates at the airport can be quite expensive, so it is advisable to avoid exchanging money at the airport. Instead, you can exchange money at your bank or at a currency exchange office in the city. This will save you a significant amount of money in the long run.

That being said, there may be situations where you need to exchange money at the airport, such as in case of an emergency where you need to ride a taxi or pay for food upon arrival. In such cases, it is still possible to exchange a small amount of cash at the airport. Just be aware that the exchange rates may not be as favorable as they would be elsewhere.

I always go to banks, or the mall to exchange money, their rates are much more reasonable than in the airport. ✌

The first part of this guide has come to an end, and  I hope the information provided will assist you during your visit to the Philippines! ✌
